Writing Intensive Courses
Thank you for your interest in Writing-Intensive (W) courses. These courses are a valuable part of EKU’s goal of improving students’ communication skills, and they provide a venue in which faculty and students can focus on writing issues.
Discipline-specific W courses can help students learn to communicate in the methods and styles that they are most likely to use in their future careers, and are an important part of programs’ curricula.
Benefits to programs. Programs with W courses are realizing the benefits of having W courses in their curricula. When programs map their curricula they identify W courses as important places to both introduce and reinforce writing skills that are important to each program’s faculty. When programmatic evaluations of student learning reveal weaknesses in writing, W courses provide a specific place for faculty to add or revise content to address those weaknesses.
